The Space Systems Division focuses on two primary technical areas: Mission and Systems Engineering and Spacecraft Orbit and Attitude Systems.
As we define it, mission and systems engineering is the process that takes a set of broad objectives and constraints and then proceeds to define a space system to meet them. SSD can support the entire Space Mission Analysis and Design Process, and can also provide support in more specific areas such as:
- Constellation design and management
- Orbit design and selection.
- Spacecraft bus conceptual design.
- Ground system conceptual design.
- Launch vehicle selection.
- Concept of operation development.
- Space mission cost modeling.
- Cost reduction studies.
Spacecraft Orbit and Attitude Systems is composed of the technologies of orbit and attitude determination and control. Microcosm's focus here has been primarily on the appropriate level of autonomy to reduce the cost of operating space systems. Microcosm develops the following orbit and attitude flight systems:
- Autonomous on-board orbit control.
- Autonomous navigation.
- Autonomous orbit transfer (large maneuvers).
- Autonomous GN&C for rendezvous and docking (far field and close in maneuvers).
- Attitude Determination and Control Systems.
- Formation Flying.
See our products and services page for more details.
We Will integrate, validate, and support mission operations for all of our flight systems.
