Scorpius® SR-2

Configuration:

6 Booster Pods & Core Sustainer Pod.
42 in. dia., 53 ft. long.
Two-stage version of Sprite without the upper stage.

Engine:

Single Microcosm Scorpius 20,000 lb. (Vacuum) thrust engine for each of six booster pods and one 20,000 lb. (Vacuum) engine for sustainer stage. Very low-cost, ablatively-cooled. Pressure-fed using high-performance pressurization system (HPPS).

Propellants:

Kerosene (Jet-A)/LOX in all-composite tanks.

Performance:

Up to 22,000 lbs. Payload 1900Nmi maximum altitude.

Navigation:

Commercial GPS/INS navigation unit; GPS antenna. Uses Scorpius avionics with RCS.

Launcher:

Launched from a simple stool off a flat pad.

Operations:

Designed for low-cost operations. Can be assembled, erected, fueled and ready to launch within 8 hours of arrival at launch site.

Facilities:

None required. Can be launched from a flat pad at any location that meets safety requirements.


After SR-2 has been successfully launched, the Scorpius project will pursue its incremental development toward SPRITE.
